Mug hard people:)

Hello all J1s and J2 seniors:),

Work hard, mug hard and all the best for your respective prelims and promos respectively:)

JIAYOU people:)

Sunday, 3 August 2008

Yo:)

Today finally concludes the end of Project Hearts and it has ended on a rather happy note despite much confusion and abit of disorganisation for the shifts today. A big thankyou to everyone who has helped out by cutting hearts, manning the booth etc (including your friends/classmates who helped to cut the hearts during college day). Special thanks to Kelly who took the effort to transport all those stuff to and fro and for printing out the permits and helping to settle much of the efforts together with me:) yays.

Well, there were indeed much hiccups along the way as this isnt exactly our project. Thus, lesson learnt is we should organise our own stuff and make use of the cic funds from the school. yays.

So, good job people:)

Let's work even harder for OCIP:)

CIC Chalet Series: (2) How to get there..?

Hey peeps!
I've realised that quite alota ppl donno how to get to the Costa Sands (Pasir Ris).
[Note, Pasir Ris, not Downtown East]

In short, the chalet is in Pasir Ris, which is near Downtown East but not in Downtown East.
It is slightly northeast from the centre of Downtown East.

To simplify matters, meet up at EW1 Pasir Ris control station at 3pm.

If you are going there yourself, check out the above info.
Still confused? Some maps to guide you there...

FIGURE 1: How to get there - by feet

1. Stop at EW1 Pasir Ris/Pasir Ris Interchange.
2. Make your way to Pasir Ris Dr 1 and walk in the east direction.
3. When you reach the first junction (between Dr 1, Dr 6 and Pasir Ris Circle), turn into Pasir Ris Circle (to your left or to the north). E! Hub should now be on your LHS.
4. Walk straight along the road, until there's a small turn at the end. Turn into it.
5. Walk along Jln Loyang Besar, turning left (north) at the first junction. DONT GET INTO LOYANG BESAR CIRCLE. IT'S A DEAD END. Walk along the other road.
6. You will walk past 2 churches before seeing 'COSTA SANDS RESORT (PASIR RIS)'.
7. Turn into it.
8. Look for B-11.

FIGURE 2: How to get there - by bus (1)

1. Take either 5, 6, 12, 17 or 21 from Pasir Ris interchange.
2. Alight ONE stop after, at Downtown East, along Pasir Ris Dr 3.
3. Walk in the direction of the bus after alighting (east) and turn into Pasir Ris Circle (north) at the first junction.
4. Follow instructions 4 - 8 above.

NOTE: If you feel like taking 354, please refer to instruction set #2 below.

** DO NOT TAKE 358 from Pasir Ris Interchange (unless you want it to go one whole loop before you can end up at the destination) **

FIGURE 3: How to get there - by bus (2)

#1
1. Alight at 405/467 (depending on which direction you come from).
2. Walk east along Dr 6, and subsequently, into Pasir Ris Circle.
3. Follow instructions 4-8 above.

#2
1. Take 354 from Pasir Ris Interchange.
2. Alight at the 2nd stop, at Pasir Ris Circle.
3. Follow instructions 4-8 above.

FIGURE 4: How to get there - by boat

1. Stop at the place illustrated above.
2. Park your boat properly and remember to remove all your personal belongings before leaving.
3. Walk south towards Costa Sands Resort (Pasir Ris).
4. The gate should be somewhere along the fence.

For people coming for the BBQ, you can put go straight to our BBQ pit.
Sad to say, there's no BBQ pit in Costa Sands (Pasir Ris) at all, so we have to make our way to the Pasir Ris Park BBQ Pits. Isn't it better..? We can enjoy the sun, sea and shuai-ges (look no further..).

So for those who want to know, it's BBQ Pit #5.
It should be directly outside the chalet..

Any questions, you can call me, jon or other peeps who know more abt the east.
So, lastly a repeated announcement:
Date: 6 - 7 July 08
Venue: Costa Sands, Pasir Ris (near downtown east but not in it)

For those westerners (ie not living in the east), it's located near EW1 Pasir Ris MRT.
So we'll meet at the MRT control station first at about 3.15pm.

All seniors are invited to stay over!
Pls bring games, such as monopoly, RISK, mahjoong sets and card games(UNO, poker) etc.
Pls bring some chips over to last us through the night as well!

The Guest of Honour will be the one giving out the grand prize of the SUDOKU competition on that day itself. The grand prize of this SUDOKU competition would be $100 cash/cheque while the other prizes are McDonald vouchers.
The admission ticket for this carnival is $2. However, that is only just the entrance fee for the carnival. People are expected to bring more money to exchange their money for coupons at the counter. Each coupon is worth 50cents. After they buy the coupons, they just need to use their coupons to buy things and play games.

Save The Greenback Turtle Campaign | St Pat

1. St Patrick's School has produced 10,000 Shamrock Turtle Floats (without numbers) for sale as keepsake/souvenir. I hope we can sell these to the students of our E7 Cluster School. It is priced at $10 each. We hope each school can take a consignment of 500 turtle floats to sell to their students. We will deliver these floats to your school by next week and I hope that you can lend support by publicising the turtle floats for sale.
2. We have also produced another 10,000 Shamrock Turtle Floats with numbers for adoption. Adoption Certificates have been printed and these will be sold to the secondary schools and JC only (unless the Primary schools do not mind selling the Adoption Certificates to the young). Each adoption Cert cost $10 and the certificate number corressponds to a Turtle Float which will be raced down the section of St Patrick's Canal. The numbered turtle float remains the property of St Patrick's School after the race.
3. There are 2 ways of selling the Adoption Certificates - either my students sell the tickets to your pupils during recess or I will pass you 200 Adoption Certificates to be sold by your school.
4. During the carnival, we do not propose selling coupons to students as it would entail more work. Hence, the medium of transaction is cash and we recommend that you appoint a parent or teacher be in charge of the cash transactions.

Date of Carnival and Shamrock Turtle Race:
Date: Saturday 5 July 2008
Time: 10am to 3pm
Venue: Section of Siglap Park Connector and Canal from St Patrick's School to Victoria JC

Post Mid-years

Ok the hellish week finally draws close to end, at least for most of us:)

And it's time to revive this blog and get things ahead. Yes, there are alot of CIC things to settle and the influx of emails are probably spoiling your appetites. So, I'll try to list out everything so that everyone will have a clearer picture of what's going on and which direction we're heading towards. Anyway get your cokes and popcorns ready because this is going to be LOOOOOONNGGG:

Current projects

OCIP
Ok, this one like not much news and based on Lixuan's last email I think it's mostly waiting. Therefore i think the OCIP comm should be quite free now so you all try to help out with the rest like PROJECT HEARTS comm:)

Operation Home Works
Ok, this one also quite seasonal one and if I am not wrong the comm should have gone through at least one time of the actual thing already. OHW comm maybe you can update the rest of us on what's going on since most if not all of us are going to undertake it somehow some day. So if you all need to change your members please give early notice and stuff.

Project Hearts
Since I am in this comm might as well take the time now to tell you all what's going on (You can choose to skip or don't skip this part. Of course I hope you won't since you all are nice people and appreciate my effort:) ).

It started out out as this "Inspire" thing by YMCA-CitiBank undertaken by this group of RJC J3s. SO they are given $5K and have to invest this cash to raise $50K for this charity called Very Special Arts(VSA) which helps disabled people by teaching them some basic art skills. So they are using a series of different mediums to raise to get the donations. So we are sort of liasing with them to sell pledges. We sell hearts at $2 so people can write a message on the hearts for these people(mainly children i think) and stick it on a big board. It's sort of like the brick wall thing we did for UNR. Anyway what we have to do is to prepare all the necessary things like cutting of the hearts and getting volunteers and stuff. Basically it's like what we did for UNR pre-events sale. And on the day we would be manning the booths.(Just like UNR style again:) ).
Pertaining to this, please DO NOT skip the following message:

IMPORTANT: Anyone wants to do Project Hearts this Saturday and next as volunteers? It's 28June & 5 July. Kelly, Stephanie and I did it and it was FUN:) Cause mainly they short of people lah. You can get your friends along to do too. 1 more thing. Next Tuesday, please bring as many coloured papers as you can find, just get those lying around your house that are not being constructive. No need to be so fancy or as good as new and also don't bring too thin the pieces. Because we need to cut the hearts out for Project Hearts. Everyone, please do your part:)

Announcements On Monday

That's all for the things we are organising. Next is a list of things we have to publicise on Monday. For details please refer to your emails.

-Charity Mass Skipping 5th July South East Community Sports Festival
-Recruitment of Volunteers for a newspaper collection 5July NUS
-Save the Greenback Turtle Campaign 5 July St Pat (This one super important because Mrs Ang specify must do be cause it affects diplomacy between neighbours)
-Thank the VJC UNR participants & facilitators for their support in making UNR a success.

Ya, that's alot of announcements to make and Ciyi suggested live ad or something and Ciyi will be booking the assembly slot tomorrow. And I just realised everything's on the 5th.LoL

Misc

- 1st, Lixuan suggested doing a thankyou card to HFH (specifically HweeKiang &gang and Ivy & gang). Ya, so I think we'll just go ahead with it, get a thankyou card then sign it off as VJCIC 0708 & 0809 batch.

- 2nd, we need to reestablish the good ties we have with mercy relief. So maybe the OCIP comm if you all are free can you all get the cool dude's contact from the seniors then contact him to see whether we all can do a project with them in lieu of National Day or something.

- 3rd, I SMSed YongFeng after we did PAH to thank him and I have also asked him for the photos already. I will send to the rest of you including the participants once he does so cause I think he's still quite busy sorting the things out? As for CIP hours ( I know we do not do CIP just for the hours:) ), I will try to confirm with him as other VJ people also did the CIP so must account for it.

-4th, we'll need people to help out with the CIC board and I don't want just a few people to be doing it as ALL should be involved so MAYBE we will do it next meeting depending whether we have time or not since we are all SUPER BUSY people now.

-5th, as you all know, the plans for next week remains a mystery as people are speculating feeling fab or e-learning day to be next week and stuff like that. In the event that we can't meet on Tue, we will still meet someday.

-6th, we need people to sell turtles on Tuesday. Please tell me the times you all can do, you all can do in pairs or triplets or quads if you all like. So please tag the times you want to do on the tagboard over to your left of the screen. somewhere around ...
<-There
So, TAG TAG TAG TAG TAG. What's a tagboard for mann.

-7th, and MOST IMPORTANT. Keep 5th-7th July free because you know why. All AWOL will be severely dealt with by... erm ... you will find out when I think of someone.

Next Tuesday's Meeting
TENTATIVELY, we won't be breaking up into our comms to discuss maybe except for Project Hearts people. So what we should be doing could be the notice board( If the design is out by then) and helping to cut out paper hearts so please contribute coloured paper generously ( not so thin ones) or live ad or whatever. But please check the blog on MONDAY 30/6 for updates.

Man this post just claimed 1hour of my life. Anyway, to all the H1 Chinese people, all the best for your last paper and for Oral:)
To everyone, all the best on your results:)

NSL:)

UNR IS OVER (:

THE CAMP IS OVER OVER OVER! (:

so now everyone can take a break and chill out and get back to studying.
somehow even though all the workload and stress was dropped, there is still that bit of sadness that UNR is over
. maybe not for the J1s but i guess for all J2s?

THANK YOU SO MUCH EVERYONE.
every single one of you really meant so much, and contributed significantly.
thank you thank you thank you for all the stuff since months ago.
and millions of thanks for the actual days.
it was really a brilliant period of time, and you guys are the best people to work with (:
I LOVE GAMES COMM! (:

UNR WAS A SUCCESS, and WE'RE ALL PART OF THIS TOGETHER.
i dunno what is the exact criteria for rating the camp's success. but for me it was definitely good enough (:

J2s, this is the final closure for us already. time really just flew by, and our cic stuff are now totally done and all. it was a great year having you all around, and especially UNR was really touching. thank you so much for all and all. and lets always have a place for CIC and volunteering in our hearts and not let the fire die down ok! (: so now we can get all geared up for A LEVELS. haha. JIAYOU AND ALL THE BEST IN MUGGING! (:

J1s, this is it! its all up to you guys now. we're gone in a poof! but no frets, anytime you all need help just tell us. we'll try our best to help as much as we can, just dont call like the exam month that kinda thing you know. (:
but definitely next year for your UNR we would be very glad to help out if we can. (: JIAYOU AND ALL THE BEST! (:

LOVE!

some recaps of UNR, with credit to Jonathan (its on the UNR blog) while he did the saya tv thing.

Day 1
Under No Roof is placed in a setting of a Chinese village, called "Hope Village". Through ths 2D1N camp, they will experience hardship and hunger as we place the participants under simulated poor living condition, similar to that of areas struck by natural disaster (i.e. earthquake).

Registration was just completed and the participants have reported into their various groups (named by different surnames, since the setting of UNR camp is in a Chinese village which will be struck by an earthquake), head by their friendly facilitators.

Basically, right now, the facilitators who are wearing the yellow UNR t-shirts and having a team building session with the participants, wearing white UNR t-shirts. You can see some of them playing team-building games and having fun with each other. Beside learning more about poverty and poor living conditions in slums and therefore, learning to cherish the things around them, UNR also offers plentiful opportunities for youths to make new friends.

Reminder:
refresh the page when you see the message "the channel is offline". this is because the broadcast has been paused for replacement of batteries of equipment. if the channel is still offline, pls kindly refresh the page again after a while as the broadcaster may require more time to bring Under No Roof 2008 back LIVE on the screen.

Opening Ceremony:
We are priviledged to have distingushed guests and artistes, such as Marcus Chin, Olivia Ong and PRC Embassy to grace our opening ceremony.

First game of the day: Family March
This game is to determine the group/family status for the game, which would determine other segments of the coming activities, i.e. the breakfast on the end day of the camp and the region in which they build the actual house. The family (consisting of 10 people) will sit sideways behind the starting line with their feet tied together. ( i.e. the right foot of the person is tied to the left foot of the person standing right of him.) The whole group is to stand up and walk sideways from the starting line towards the squatting region line marked out on the lane. The whole team will need to move towards the ½ line in squatting position after the last person in the group crosses the squatting region line. Once the last person crosses the ½ line, the last person will become the first person and move backwards in the squatting position until the last person in the line crosses the walking region line. After which the whole team will stand up and walk towards the finishing line (originally the starting line). Once the last person crosses the starting point, the facilitators will stop their stopwatches and the timing would be noted. The aim of the game is to complete this task in the fastest time possible. The group will be awarded different family status according to the speed with which they complete the task.
This game will allow a lot of teams to showcase their family spirit and teamwork and how well their family can work together. In times of disasters, for example the most recent earthquake in China, everyone needs to work together in order to rebuild their homes. With more people working and thinking together, difficulties can be solved easily. It is also important that through this game they will learn that nothing comes free in this world. Their current living standard is due to the hard work and effort and they had put in beforehand. It is also especially important that the family works together with combine effort to achieve the ultimate goal.

They are having dinner now. Dinner is plain rice with baked beans and sardine with an apple. An apple a day keeps the doctor away!

Disaster strikes!
We guided the participants to start playing a game.
During the game, we will blast the siren and play a recording live from China's earthquake scene, in order to simulate how it feels like to be caught by surprise in a disaster. The family members are separated by the facilitators into three stations. Family heads are gathered and instructed to reunite the family by looking through a very long name list, in search of their family members' names. Those who were not found by their heads within the time limit will be transported to West Coast Park (evacuation centre), separated from their families. The purpose of this activity is to allow the participants to feel how it is like to be separated from their groups/families all of a sudden.
In reality, things are worse. Unlike this simulated disaster, there is no gurantee that the family will be reunited once again and sometimes, there is no news of their members after the disaster. Family members also do not know where exactly to go to find their loved ones.

West Coast Park("temporary shelter")
Participants will be back in their families and they will start building their slums using pieces of cardboard on the wet muddy field. After constructing their temporary homes, they will play "water challenge".

Water Challenge
This game aim to teach participants that in times of disaster, water is scarce as water supplies are usually cut off and because it is an essential necessity, one must be prepared to endure the arduous task of transporting water, especially in remote villages, from a water source back to their own people. Along the way, one might meet with obstacles or setbacks such as accidental spillage of water or drying up of a water source e.g wells due to incompetent water management and in this game, this is accounted for by the fact that how much water one can collect is actually determined by the numbers on the pingpong balls that one picked.

For us, we take water for granted because it flows freely and conveniently at the turn of a tap. But when water supplies are cut off, that’s when one realize that how much work is actually needed to get water be it for drinking or for washing up. However one has no choice as forced by circumstances. Therefore, we must treasure and appreciate the simplest thing now: that we have clean potable water.

Debrief.
Sharing session and reflection time with facilitators.
Lights off! See you tmr morning!

Day 2
The participants have arrived at Vivocity after their morning breakfast. Most of them reflected that they did not get to sleep well. The slum fails to protect them from the chill in the middle of the night.

Nevertheless, the participants are still very enthusiastic, especially in playing the various station games and building their very own home for their family!

Games played and significance:
  • Soccer and Captain's Sponge: Even in times of hardship and uncertainties, life still has to go on. The children use whatever little they have and improvise common games to play.

  • Workstation: the participants need to learn to make use of scrap materials to make things that are sold to earn an income to support the family. In real-life slum areas, people make whatever they could find into items that they could sell to tourist. Adults bear the responsibility to make the best toy to earn as much money as possible so that their family can have a better life. Persuasive skills needed to convince people to buy your product. Making alone is not enough.

  • Lost: There is no exit at all. This game simulates conditions in an earthquake where families lose their love ones and many people find themselves lost. In many cases, the lost victim would often try to find his/her own way out, without a clue that his family is looking for him. He often has to think very carefully about how he intends to move around as the debris may cause injuries while bare electrical wires may be hazardous. Survival skills are also important and this will allow the lost victim to decide where to move as the presence of coconut trees will provide source of water. In addition, the way the team members tried to find their member is similar to a situation whereby they have to guess where their family member is with no clues given to them at all. It is hoped that the groups will learn that this situation is actually very real and it is what the people are actually experiencing over in china.

  • Trashures: This game simulates the conditions after earthquakes where by families would have to salvage for their belongings among the ruins. All their valuables are hidden under the debris and the only way of finding them is by your own effort as no other person will be there to help you find it. By only allowing them to move from hoop to hoop, it is an example of the obstacles they might face along the way for example a sudden collapse of a tree etc which hinders their movement. The obstacle course shows how difficult it is to move in the quake-hit region. At the end of the game, the participants will have to complete a jigsaw puzzle. Facilitators will ask members to reflect and ask what they think about the picture of the jigsaw puzzle.

  • Blind logic: This game will allow participants to experience how it feels to be handicap (inconvenience) and blind (vulnerability) because of snowstorms and the earthquake. To communicate effectively with each other e.g. the handicap shouting out clear instructors to the blind to avoid obstacles (in real life: rocks, broken roads, etc resulting in certain areas being cut off). As a family, we should make up for each other’s disabilities and remain united, not leaving anyone behind, despite being separated at the start of the disaster. Team mates should cheer each other on throughout the game, which is an important source of encouragement when everyone is feeling down and out in a crisis. The temporary separation when they bump into other people or obstacles is to signify the mad rush during a disaster, which would result in some people getting injured or trumped upon, hence, unable to move until help is received or being delayed due to diseases like malaria for awhile before reaching the safety zone. Distraction by facilitators is to simulate the chaotic situation during the disaster, as everyone would be agitated and panicky. The moving of obstacles signifies the changing circumstances after a disaster, such as landslides or droughts and hence, people have no choice but to adapt to the situation and work around it to deal with the crisis. The facilitators taking away the passports while separating participants during the game signifies looting during a disaster.

House-building

Participants will be given mainly PVC tubes and paper bricks for structural support. Partcipants are to consider the architecture, interior design and stability of the houses. Some fortunate families actually get to build ther house with celebrities and Miss Earth. After the houses are constructed, they will be sent for judging and the family with the best house will win a trip to China to participate in the rebuilding efforts over there.

Our participants are indeed very creative and innovative, coming up with unique designs for the various parts of the houses, such as the windows, roof and even a chimney!

Meanwhile, VJCIC members are asking passer-bys to make donations towards rebuilding fund of Habitat for Humanity.

To conclude, this event won't be successful without the enthusiasm of the participants! Thank you!

A year will pass very quickly, as we realise today, and before you know it you will be seniors and handing over already. So make full use of this one year, do your best, and you will surely learn a lot from this experience.

Along the way, if you need any help in one way or another, just approach us, we will help in any way that we can:)

We wish you all the best in the year ahead! With you, CIC will soar to greater heights.

CIC rocks:)

Tribute to the JC2 seniors

Hi JC2 seniors :)

This post is dedicated to you guys. 1stly, we hope you all enjoyed the handover and JTS (of course you did:) ). It was alot of hardwork and teamwork but yups it was definitely worth it:)

It was really enjoyable having you guys as our seniors and although it was a mere few months offically being part of CIC and frankly we did not interact much with most of you, the experience has been great and your guidance valuable.

And for the record we finally played a decent prank back on you guys with the tooth paste:)

For having served the community intensively for one entire year as members of CIC, it is really time to take a well earned break and get back onto the studying track. We will take it from here and you all can continue all this again after the A levels. yay.

Thanks for the lanyard and all the best in future endeavors.

And finally, we assure you that we will let the legacy live on:)

OCIP info

Organisation: People people
Number: 66 5341 3185
Fax Number: 66 5341 3186
*Person to look for: Ms Jyap
Her Email: jyap@loxinfo.co.th

ok. so heres the organisation and contact details as we have told you all about very briefly during meeting just now.
we're not really sure what we can do with them now.
but the main gist is that MJ went with them last year.
so we dont know whats the job scope. but ya. it seems plausible and very much worth a try.

things to note:
the organisation is based in thailand chiangmai, so you all cant search it locally and go down etc.
so the numbers are impt.
and it is very very impt to contact Ms Jyap, she is the key here.
if they happen to inquire, then just tell them we got their contact from MJ who went with them last year.

not sure if it'll work out, but its definately worth a try.

yupp, hope this helps (:

do tell us if you need any help.

Updates bout HFH

Hellos :)

Here are the updates for HFH

Individual Costs - $385( in country expenses and insurance)
-Air fare will have to be arranged by team

Team costs
For a team of 10 pax -min. donation is 6ooo
Additional $550 with each additional number

Since there are 40 pax in our team , it is considered as 4 teams of 10pax. Hence the minimum donation will be times 4 ( according to person in charge) . However, she will be checking with Thailand if they can do up a special project for us. Btw, teachers are considered as part of 40 pax.

Things we may expect :
-digging, mixing cement, laying bricks and other kind of construction work which is done by manual labour.( there will a construction supervisor on site)

We can also incorporate other activities like visits to orphanages or local schools to do some teaching . But the main focus will still be building homes .

    Hello fellow J1s,

I've found a very useful site if you guys want to source for organisations for the OCIP proposal.
So do check out http://www.thechoiceinitiative.org/sending.htm . It contains the links to quite a number of orgainisations that do overseas community projects. However some of them requires us to be adults or stay on longer etc.

    I found one useful one:
    http://www.ohf.org.sg/Community_service_projects.htm
Havn't contacted them yet though so not sure of details.

But it's to Cambodia and i think our seniors went for that already. ya, so i think we can carry on searching.

Hope the links are useful. Have to start on my PI now ya so good luck everyone.

And all the best to all of us for Sunday:)

Latest Updates on Trash to Gold

Hi all. This is a concise update to let the rest of you all know the progress of Trash to Gold. Basically the proposal is being approved by Mrs Ang already. We are doing the Filming of the video advertisement on 12th March, the wednesday of the March Holidays, so please come and help us out if you are free!!! We are thinking of designing posters to paste around the school as well. Anyway. the short video advertisement is about a guy/girl or a group of people who are short-sighted but cannot afford specs for some reason, how they spend their day and some funny things or embarrassing things theat they experience because of their poor eyesight. So please help us brainstorm if u all have any interesting and innovative ideas. Also, the screening of the video is tentatively scheduled on the 17th March. Eddie from Mercy Relief is coming down on the 28th March to speak to the school. Lastly, the emphasis of the project is not about collecting and ask people to donate, is more about conveying the message and letting people know why they should donate and they should only donate after understanding the noble cause of this whole project. :D good luck and jia you for CTs.. stay happy

    update!

hello ok this is just an update of unr.
i talked to hwee kiang, and she wants the pre event sales on the 22nd of march to be from 11AM TO 7PM. the students wld have to come earlier for registration, but the event itself is frm 11AM TO 7PM.
    take note.

and ive alr sent the letters to the JCs. and i did the name list for them too. so basically we just have to wait for their reply by the 29th, where we will tell them of the reporting time and tell them the places they wld go to.

this tuesday's meeting wld be abt refining the programme, since we have some time problems in the prog. maybe cutting down some stuff wld be plausible, as we have said. and also somemore things like the publicity that we're going to do in VJ for this event. and the design. anil, where's the design??

BTW, the confirmed theme is " UNDER NO ROOF 2008: Where hope begins"
    courtesy of jason :D

    update for UNR

Hello ppl, this goes out ESPECIALLY TO THOSE IN UNR.
    PLEASE READ!!! :))

    more immediate stuff:

    • Draft of letters to the JCs

ok, so i have a draft of the letter alr. i kinda edited it slightly, based on what they gave us. HFH wants to send the letter out to the schs by this coming wk, ie. by 15th feb. so i'll send my draft by tdy or tmr. my guess is that they'll send it back for more editing.

    • Theme

they want a more nicer, impactful theme. our theme of 'HOPE DESPITE DESPAIR' is abit ... weak? so they want something more powerful like the previous years, like 'UNDER NO ROOF: WHERE WILL YOU SLEEP TONIGHT?' we've got to settle the theme by this tues, but it'll still revolve around hope, so that won't hinder our planning la.

    • Brainstorm games/activities during event

this will be the main topic for tuesday's meeting. the activities etc, incl the rationing, the 'disturbance' in the night, the video scenario thing that's gonna be played. other things to take note of :

-space constraint at the open area

-wash up : where / how are they gonna wash up? chinhao said sth like the vivo ppl wont like the participants to was up in the toilets cos its bound to be very very dirty etc

-safety / security : bring in first aid and those on duty to take care of belongings, how to collect and make sure participants' belongings dont get lost. since we're gonna strip them of everything. (heh.)

    and more.

    • T-shirt design

we have to come up with a design, and i heard that anil is coming up with one? anw, if there is ANYONE, ANYONE AT ALL IN CIC WHO CAN COME UP WITH ANY DESIGN TOO, pls do so thank you very much :)

we'll narrow the choices too, so it's best if we had a wide pool of designs to choose from in the first place. and this will come down to settling the theme first, so this coming tuesday's meeting is super impt.

    other stuff to take note:

*abt half an hr educational session

    *debrief session

    *opening/closing ceremony

    *REGISTRATION

so guys, make sure you're there on tues ok? we really really need to get things done, esp the pre event and the event itself.

    THANKS!

    diy.

    Hey there!

Tomorrow's meeting will be quite different from the norm:)

The J1s won't be having meeting tmr, pending their release of O'level results, which will be this Thursday. If you're J1 and reading this, all the best for your results!

For us J2s, The HFH (Habitat for Humanity) Committee will be going down to meet Hosea at the HFH Office, 56 Geylang Lorong 23 at 5pm (leave school 3.30pm) to discuss and plan Operation Homeworks and Build4Hope Vivocity.

After that the exco will meet Chin Seng ( Our senior) to find out more about SPLAT!, which is this project seeking our collaboration in. Anybody (J2s) who wants to join us do feel free to, since we're meeting him after HFH.

For the Mercy Relief Committee, I'll let you decide the time you want to meet tomorrow. If all of you end early it'll be better for all of you if you meet earlier. Just sms me the details when you've decided. And if you (J2s) want to join us at HFH, feel free to! :)

And. Check your emails later, I'll forward you an invite for a Raffles Community Leaders Forum. We'll need to reply soon so reply me if you're interested asap too! (by tmr).

    Cheers and Cya tmr!

    Trash to Gold latest update

Hi all.. this is my first post here.. anyway... I've contacted Singapore Polytechnic's Optometry Centre and they have directed me to a few professors.. Actually SP has been doing spectacles recycling project as well. they've been sending specs overseas for the needy.. so our project is not new to them. they've agreed to help me out. i should suppose is zero cost. however, their exam is nearing, after their exam they'll have a holiday that last for 2 months. so the professor in charge said that May will be a good time. i told them we are maybe targetting hundreds pair of specs.. he told me that they can finish in 2 hours or so.. well.. maybe before May.. we wanna consider some other items for trash to gold? Pls help us brainstorm on what other items are feasible for collection and recycling.. thanks.. that's all for now.. See u ll tommorow during CIC meeting.. yippie.. stay happy :D

    Next Meeting

Will be this coming Tuesday, 15th January!

    Venue: T13
    For J2s only: we'll meet at 4pm.

We'll invite the J1s to join us at 5.30pm. Unfortunately, we've to start this late cause the J1s have 3rd period P.E, which ends at 5.25pm. For those of us who end school super early, we can meet earlier to study and chiong homework together:)

At 4, we'll review our plan for this year, then different committees will break up and discuss your separate projects. After that we'll prepare to welcome the J1s at 5.30pm. We want to make a good first impression.

We will be putting up announcements during morning assembly on monday and tuesday and will be calling up those who have put their names down during CCA Walkabout. And of course, put a notice on our CIC board.

Some of you have juniors who've indicated interest, so do invite them down at 5.30pm too! :)

Now for our collar pin, majority voted for the design above. It'll be a Gold collar pin. We're waiting for approval from the school and very soon we'll be wearing it on our uniform!

Finally, I hope you can all check the blog frequently or whenever possible, so I don't have to sms you to check the blog.

And. Lets go out for dinner this Tues after meeting! We'll invite the J1s to join us if they want.

Do tag your comments on the tagboard.
    Enjoy the weekend:)

    Happy New Year!

    Its the year 2008!

Thats right, our final year in VJ. So lets make the best of it!

CIC meeting will resume next Tuesday, 8th January, Classroom T11, at 4.30pm. (Hopefully we can adjust it earlier depending on our new timetables)

Its our first meeting after restructuring, so everyone try your best to come.

This meeting will be for us JC2s only as it'll be for us to settle all our internal affairs, the new structure, our new projects etc.

We'll be inviting the JC1s to sit-in our meeting for introduction the following Tuesday, 15th January. You know what to tell your juniors during juniors-meet-seniors, orientation etc =p

To all taking R-papers, all the best!

    Cya all next Tuesday! :)
